Artisan Lofts

Artisan Lofts is an ecologically sensitive, five-story mixed use infill project in the heart of the Hawthorne District in Portland, Oregon. Viridian Environmental Design was hired as site-designers and landscape architects to meld the vision for the building with the surrounding community.

The conceptual landscape plan is composed of ribbons of space that integrate with one another and the building to create a cohesive framework that embraces the surrounding neighborhood. Forms from the building create the space and activate and support interior uses. Distinct zones are flexible enough for spontaneous uses, yet organized enough to support formal gatherings and functions. The vision is that these ribbons reach out to residents of neighborhood and allow them to experience the public spaces while maintaining a level of privacy for the residents.
